                    week 9 : mid-term oral report: choose one paper related to media representations of older people and report the outcomes; collect a small sample of relevant Taiwanese data to duplicate the research; report your pilot study and compare the outcomes

                      week 10 : silver marketing and media representaitons of older people (the use of Critical discourse analysis I)

                      case study: life insurance ads and ideology of ageing  (Chen, 2015)

                        week 11 : decoding the ideology of ageing and older age in newspapers (the use of Critical discourse analysis II)

                        case study:  discursive construction of older people in Taiwanese newspapers (Chen, 2017)

                            week 13 : intergenerational communicaiton (I): communication paradigm

                            basic conceps: communicaiton accommodation theory, studies on communication perceptions of intergenerational communication in communicaiton and social psychological disciplines

                            • 14. 1 June - 7 June

                              week 14:  intergenerational communicaiton (II): gerontological sociolinguistic paradigm 

                              basic concepts:  painful-self-disclosure; self-disenfranchisement; social functions of age-telling strategies;  young-old talks versus old-old talks 

                              • 15. 8 June - 14 June

                                week 15: intergeneraitonal communication (III):  application of conversation analyais in intergenerational communicaiton studies ; reading an assigned paper ; application of the method for final assignement 

                                • 16. 15 June - 21 June

                                  week 16: communicaiton with older people in service (I) : senior education contexts ; teacher-student interactions ; communicaiton strategies adopted by teachers of senior education (an assiged paper to read and discuss)

                                  • 17. 22 June - 28 June

                                    week 17: communicaiton with older people in service (II): home-based long-term home care contexts; types of older care receivers; communication strategies adopted by care givers; including some discussion on communication with dementia patients in family contexts and in medical contexts (assigned papers to read and discuss)

                                    • 18. 29 June - 5 July

                                      week 18:  final assignement

                                      pick one journal article related to the themes covered in the lectures following the mid-term exam week and present the research by means of PPT ; provide your critical comments on the strengh and weakness of the study and how you are going to extend this study if you were given an opportunity to do so.
