Children and juvenile are developmental and vulnerable, and therefore require families and the government to take on the responsibility of care and protection. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act, the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act are the four most important laws in Taiwan to protect the welfare of children and juvenile. The four laws clearly stipulate the basic rights of children and juvenile, welfare services, protective measures, freedom from violence and friendly judicial procedures. For children and juvenile who need special protection or services, the relevant responsibilities, procedures, time and service content are also clearly defined in the laws. Social workers engaged in services for children and juvenile must not only be familiar with them but also abide by them and other matters that must be complied with. This course uses legal analysis, practical cases and experience sharing to promote students' understanding of laws related to children and juvenile and to safeguard the rights of children and juvenile when providing services.
