課程大綱Course Description:
本自從1953年科學家成功解析遺傳物質DNA的結構,至今已超過60年,期間突破許多傳統科學無法破除的障礙,並縱向及橫向連結以生物學為中心的不同領域,發展出獨特的現代生物科技的專業範疇,許多生物科技產品陸續誕生,改變人類的生活。課程內容以生物、科技與歷史的聯繫開始,介紹生物科技生活應用發展過程中突破性創見及影響深遠的歷史人物故事,著重現代生物科技與人(humanity)、社會(society)與科學(science)之相互關係。 課程設計方面,利用第一部份介紹奠定現代生物科技重要的突破性發現,及遺傳物質DNA的語言及奧秘,先讓同學熟悉現代生物學已走入基因的微觀層次。第二部分將選定近年來已成功商品化的生物科技衍伸之生活或醫療產品加以介紹,包括微生物產品、動物及植物基因改良食品、基因檢測服務以及新穎的生物科技基因治療藥物,透過生動及淺顯易懂的實例講解,將能讓非本專業背景同學對現今正夯的生物科技有深刻認識。第三部分將介紹尚在研究開發的生物科技未來產品,包括創新的實驗動物疾病模式、複製與基因轉殖動物、預防疾病的疫苗,甚至長生不老藥物,課程將在此部份以觸類旁通的說明,激起同學深度思考,生物科技如果漫無節制的發展下去,未來的人性及社會,真的是當今科學家期盼出現的地球藍圖嗎?
English Outline:
It has been more than 60 years since scientists successfully analyzed the structure of genetic material DNA in 1953. During this period, they broke through many obstacles that traditional science could not break, and connected different fields centered on biology vertically and horizontally, and developed unique modern biotechnology. In the professional field, many biotechnology products have been born one after another, changing human life.The content of the course starts with the connection between biology, technology and history, introducing breakthroughs and influential stories of historical figures in the development of biotechnology life applications, focusing on modern biotechnology and humanity, society and science The mutual relationship. In terms of curriculum design, the first part introduces important breakthrough discoveries in modern biotechnology, as well as the language and mysteries of genetic material DNA, so that students are familiar with modern biology that has entered the microscopic level of genes.The second part will introduce the life or medical products that have been successfully commercialized in recent years, including microbial products, animal and plant genetically modified foods, genetic testing services, and novel biotech gene therapy drugs, through vivid and simple presentations The easy-to-understand practical explanations will enable students with non-major backgrounds to have a deep understanding of the current biotechnology. The third part will introduce the future products of biotechnology that are still under research and development, including innovative experimental animal disease models, replication and gene transfer animals, vaccines for disease prevention, and even immortality drugs.
