課程大綱Course Description:
本課程分為兩大部分,授課教師於第一部分將介紹大眾媒體研究至文化研究的基本理論概念,並且透過媒體科技發展的歷史引導修課同學思考「人」、「科技」與「社會」三者之間互動的關係,以及思考「媒體科技」的社會意義。課程的第二部分則運用社會學取徑的文化研究方法,在解讀媒體內容時帶入當代台灣社會議題,藉由各種媒體類型與媒體再現來帶領修課同學進一步思考與批判台灣當代社會的不同面向與議題。隨著媒體科技進步,人們由媒體訊息的接收者漸漸成為創造、再製媒體訊息的互動者,更隨著手機、電腦、行動網路、社交網站的發達,人們每日可接收到來自各種不同新舊媒體的訊息,不管是電視、報紙、雜誌、廣告、網站等媒介內含的大量媒介符碼和影像符號都充斥日常生活中,媒體素養成為當代社會公民一項不可或缺的技巧、思考方式。本課程欲透過多媒體教材使用與小組討論活動,融合社會學取徑的文化研究議題,培養修課同學解構與解讀日常生活中隨手可得的媒體訊息與內容。除訓練同學獨立思考批判媒體訊息、媒體消費行為之外,本課程更期盼同學能將社會關懷帶入多元媒體科技使用行為,進一步成為具備媒體素養的積極公民。
English Outline:
The course is designed into two major parts: a) the history of developments of media technology; b) a sociological approach towards cultural studies. In the first half of the semester, theories and concepts of mass communication studies and paradigms of cultural studies will be introduced along with the history of developments of media technology. After introducing basic concepts of media studies, the teacher will move on to bring in sociological concerns on race, gender, romantic love, aging, and disability into the discussion of media representation so that the students could read media messages with broader knowledge of sociology.The development of technology has transformed the society as well as human behaviour. Nowadays, we are bombarded by information transmitted through different types of media technology, which makes it necessary for people to develop media literacy as a tool to deconstruct media messages as well as an essential element to live in a civilized society. The aims of this course is to a) introduce concepts and methods of media studies, b) incorporate sociological approach into discussions of media representation so that the students could develop the ability of critical thinking when reading media messages in everyday life.
