課程大綱Course Description：

本課程之教學目的在於探討當前台灣社會之諸多社會問題與現象，讓社會工作系之學生了解各項社會問題之成因，以做為其未來從事社會工作直接服務與相關研究工作之基礎。就此，本課程將以近年來台灣各領域社會問題研究之內涵做為導論，並於其後各週探討單一主題。課程中所涵蓋之社會問題與現象計有：社會保險制度之發展及其問題、長期失業與青少年就業問題、中低收與低收入家庭之就業障礙及其就業服務政策、台灣勞工問題與對策、家庭政策與人口問題、全球化下台灣的移民與移工問題、女性就業歧視問題、貧窮問題、身心障礙人口之問題及其趨勢、物質濫用及其社會問題、青少年行為偏差之問題，以及色情現象與問題等。為求提升其對社會問題之觀察能力及培養社會工作人員之研究能力，本課程除由授課教師講授上述各個社會問題與現象，以及要求學生自行尋找其感興趣之議題並深入研究外，亦聘請諸多社政、勞政與相關民間機構之官員與實務專家分享其長期從業以來之觀察與心得，以提升學生對實務界之了解，進而結合課堂之知識與業界之實務，使其對社會之觀察以及所進行之研究能更為貼近社會現實。

English Outline：

The purpose of this course is to develop students’ knowledge about the social problems and phenomena in Taiwan and its causes and effects to the society as a whole, which may in turn build their perception of the society and the clients they may work on as well as their ability of managing academic research in the future. Accordingly, this course begins with the introduction of studies on general social problems in Taiwan and is followed by specific topics including: the development of social insurance programmes and the debates over its sustainability, the problems of and debates over the Taiwanese labour market, the problems of long-term unemployment and youth employment, the employment situation of and employment service schemes for low- and mid-low income families, demographic problems and family policy, migrant workers in Taiwan, female discrimination on employment, poverty, the problems and human rights of the disabled people, alcohol and drug abuse and its effects, the problems of juvenile delinquency, and pornography and its problem. In order to fulfil the aims of this course, besides the lectures given by the faculty member and lectures from governmental departments and, particularly in private sector, welfare organisations, students are required to work as a group to find out a topic they are interested in and do further research on it. In this way, students are capable of looking deeper into social problems, collecting and analysing data and literature and therefore appropriately integrating practical and academic abilities in pursuing people’s well-beings.
