The content and teaching-pedagogical approach adopted in this series of two courses encourages students to engage in the basic skills of listening and speaking proactively. Topics encountered in current day-to-day needs, study, social, and business matters help students to gain private and public confidence in the use of normative language. The learning methods are designed to provide a preliminary subjective evaluation of one’s own listening ability, and to assess one’s self-progress in clarifying meaning objectively. Such methods progressively include (i) passive listening, (ii) active response, and (iii) vocabulary development and reinforcement through planned pronunciation practice. |
