The Internet explosion is driving the popularity of multimedia information systems, e.g., Distance Learning and Digital Video/Audio Library. This course provides a study on current concepts and techniques associated with multimedia information systems. The purpose of this course is not only for the engineering (science) part but also for the management part. Students with engineering and non-engineering background are all welcomed. The course contents include (1) Introduction of Multimedia Information Systems, (2) Introduction of Distributed Multimedia Information Systems, (3) Multimedia Networking Architecture and Protocols, (4) Multimedia Synchronization and Quality of Service, and (5) Multimedia Applications and Management. There are two programming assignments in this course. Students have to be familiar with multimedia programming techniques, e.g., TCP/IP programming, popular multimedia toolboxes, audio/video drivers, and etc.
