This course introduces theories and researches related to issues in the field of language and culture. For example, the following topics will be discussed:(1)The relationship between class, race, gender, institutional settings, and language use;(2)The ways linguistic behavior may reflect diverse cultural patterns(3)The role language may play in the sociocultural processes by which children and teenagers interact socially within their culture; (4) The educational inspiration and application of culturally based difference by which students used in communication. This course can be considered an introduction to sociolinguistics, but it requires no previous background in linguistics or anthropology.
